BEVERLY HILLS, Mich. (AP) - Kris Draper says he hopes to know within a week to 10 days whether the Detroit Red Wings want him back.

The 40-year-old forward definitely wants to stay.

Draper worked out with the locked-out Detroit Lions on Wednesday at Detroit Country Day School along with a trainer who has helped him stay in shape. Lions tight end Brandon Pettigrew says Draper pushed him during conditioning drills led by Art of Strength trainer Michael Knight.

Draper says it would be selfish to play elsewhere if Detroit doesn't want him to return for an 18th season with the team.

Red Wings general manager Ken Holland wrote in a text message Wednesday that a decision has not been made about Draper's future with the franchise.
