Cincinnati quarterback Munchie Legaux has received an extra year of eligibility from the NCAA after missing most of last season because of a gruesome knee injury.

The American Athletic Conference announced Wednesday that hardship waivers had been approved by the NCAA for Legaux and Bearcats receiver Shaq Washington.

Legaux will have one more year of eligibility. Washington, who missed most of the 2011 season with an injury, has two years left. Legaux was injured Sept. 7 at Illinois. He was hit while trying to pass and his left leg bent awkwardly, damaging several ligaments.

Legaux has thrown for 2,847 yards and 20 touchdowns and run for 627 yards and seven scores in 31 games for Cincinnati.

Washington had 78 catches for 783 yards last season.
