The family of the late Bud Adams is taking control of the Tennessee Titans, naming his son-in-law president and chief executive officer of the team.

Smith issued a statement Tuesday afternoon that Adams' daughters Susie Adams Smith and Amy Adams Hunt will be co-chairpersons. Grandson Kenneth Adams IV will join the Titans' board of directors.

He says they also are taking all the steps needed to comply with NFL rules to take over the team's ownership, a process that already has started.

Smith says they will stay out of the spotlight until the league approves the transition of ownership but the family is in charge of the organization. But Smith says the knowledge he learned in decades of being involved with the team will help during this transition.
