Elise Viebeck said Friday that Sen. Rand Paul, R-KY, is likely to win the Conservative Political Action Conference’s GOP presidential nomination straw poll this weekend

The Hill’s Elise Viebeck said Friday on “Special Report with Bret Baier” that Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., is likely to win the Conservative Political Action Conference’s GOP presidential nomination straw poll this weekend because, simply put, younger Republicans just seem to like him.

“He has so much popularity with young people who feel they can identify with him,” Viebeck said. “In fact, in one of his speeches today, he not only referenced Montesquieu and the founding fathers, but also a member of Pink Floyd.”

Despite what Viebeck referred to as Paul’s “crossover appeal” at CPAC, she also stressed he might not be as popular a candidate among a wider set of Republican voters.

“Mike Huckabee is the one who’s seen to be leading the field in polls right now,” she said. “I think that shows the difference between CPAC as an event mainly for young conservatives, and the wider GOP voting base.”
