Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal is set to back Rick Perry for president, a key endorsement for the Texas Governor. Sources close to both Jindal and Perry confirm the endorsement to FOX News.
The nation's first Indian-American governor, Jindal himself had also been thought of as a potential presidential candidate and was on Senator John McCain's short list of potential running mates in 2008. Despite a damaging response to President Obama's State of the Union Speech in 2009, Jindal is known as a serious conservative with big ideas on entitlement reform and a bright future within the party.
Perry will also be appearing with another influential Republican governor later this week, Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, who also chairs the Republican Governor's Association and has yet to formally back a candidate.
For those of you keeping track there are still a handful of prime endorsements among Republican governors still out there for the taking. Mitch Daniels of Indiana, Chris Christie of New Jersey, Nikki Haley of South Carolina and Terry Branstad of Iowa each have yet to endorse a candidate.
