Rep. Barbara Comstock, R-Va., announced her endorsement of Sen. Marco Rubio's presidential campaign Wednesday, one day after the fifth GOP debate in Las Vegas.

In a statement, Comstock, the only Republican in Congress from Northern Virginia, pointed specifically to Rubio's plans to revive the U.S. economy and boost national security efforts.

"Marco Rubio represents a strong, new generation of leadership who can turn the page from the failed Obama and Clinton policies, focus on the future, rejuvenate our economy, and create a strong, safe and prosperous America," Comstock said in the statement. "Marco understands firsthand the struggles facing middle-class families and he has a plan to revive our stalled economy and put America back to work and on a path toward prosperity."

The announcement comes a little more than year after Comestock won her seat in Congress, succeeding Republican Rep. Frank Wolf. During her 2014 bid, Rubio helped fundraise for Comstock, including one event in McLean, Va.
