A Frenchman was arrested Saturday at an airport in the United Kingdom after he was found to be carrying two guns as he approached a check-in desk, several local media outlets reported.

The incident occurred in Gatwick Airport's North Terminal around 9:30 a.m. local time. Staff from the Easyjet airliner confronted the man, who then sprinted into a parking lot where he threw one of his guns into a garbage bin. Airport staff and law enforcement apprehended him soon after and found another firearm strapped to his body, according to reports.

Authorities confirmed the suspect was French and moved him to the airport's police station. The incident comes one day after a series of terror attacks rocked the city of Paris.

Sussex police were called into the station because of reports describing "suspicious actions by a man who discarded an item at the airport," reported local media. A bomb disposal unit was also brought into the airport to investigate the suspicious item.

Authorities say it is too early to tell what the item may be, according to local reports.
