Our friends at Styleite have been infected by '90s fever.
Their response to Rachel Bilson’s 90210 To Do List costumes was similar to how they react to baby animals, and ease of going to the bathroom isn’t really even a factor when it comes to their collective “all one-piece everything” resolutions.

And they’re not alone. Christy Turlington’s skin cells are convinced it’s still 1992, and eBay reports sales of ‘90s garb to be through the roof. From Heidi Ware, Head of Fashion Editorial and Creative for the online behemoth:
“With so many transactions coming in from around the world, eBay acts as a barometer of the global cultural zeitgeist, tracking what shoppers are coveting and what’s trending at any given time. eBay has definitely seen an increase for the ‘90s trend over the past two years in everything from acid wash jeans and crop tops, to accessories like jelly shoes and scrunchies and even video game consoles. The decade was front-loaded with lots of edgy silhouettes, bright accents, and zany looks, all of which are feeling fresh again.”

Taylor Swift went paddle boarding on Sunday, which, admittedly, is not news. But she still managed to make waves thanks to her bikini.

The singer, accompanied by her father Scott and tour-mate Ed Sheeran, took to the waters in Westerly, Rhode Island, wearing a black-and-white two-piece with high-waisted bottoms. The cut of the suit gave her a retro, almost '50s look, but it's a look that might seem oddly familiar — especially to Swift's biggest fashion fans.
What we're saying is that Taylor Swift almost exclusively wears high-waisted shorts in addition to high-waisted bikinis. But mostly shorts.

"Taylor Swift is really bringing back the retro look of a high waist," says Melissa Liebling-Goldberg, the fashion and beauty director at POPSUGAR, adding that high-waisted items — while retro — are a great way to hide a tummy or accentuate a tiny waist.
She also says that anyone can look great in a pair of high-waisted shorts, bikini bottoms, or even a skirt. "The trick to making it flattering is finding the right proportion to your torso," explains Liebling-Goldberg.

"If you have a shorter torso, go for styles that are cut comfortably above your hipbones, but not too far above your waist," advises Ali Levine of Ali Levine Design. "Since low-cut styles were popular for so long, even a mid-rise cut will give you the look of this trend."
If you're taller, Liebling-Goldberg says to pull those shorts higher and higher. "Look for something truly high-waisted to make sure it really registers the trend."

There's more to consider than just the height of the shorts, however. When opting for a high-waisted look on the bottom, never neglect the top. "Choose your top wisely," suggests Levine. "A tank top or a simple T-shirt looks chic with high-waisted shorts … typically a crop top is a perfect match. Even tying a top, like a button up, is cute in this case."
Just as with any trend, there are a number of "don'ts" to keep in mind when it comes to wearing belly-high waistbands. "Don’t wear high-waisted shorts that are too short," warns Levine. "If your cheeks are hanging out of the bottom, they are too small."

Raina Seitel, the co-star of Style Network's "City Girl," has one more "don't" when it comes to wearing high-waisted shorts: "[They're] not so advisable for those who … have a bit too much junk in the trunk," she says. "But Taylor is so thin and tall she looks adorable and even manages to look classy in the shortest of high-waisted shorts."
"The great part of the look is that it works equally well with everything from retro bikinis to flared skirts to short shorts," concludes Liebling-Goldberg, "so it's all about what looks best on you."
In Taylor's case, we think it's safe to say she's sticking with this look for a long, long time. See what we mean:

“The humble jean is one of those rare garments, similar to the basic tee: You need at least one great one in your wardrobe, preferably 10!” says Amy Leverton, senior denim editor at Stylesight. “It has to make you feel comfortable, fit to your contours, and feel as soft as butter.”
One of the best parts about jeans? Making them work for you.

“They can certainly help accentuate your body shape,” Leverton adds. “The size, subtle positioning, and shape of the back pockets alone can have a dramatic effect on the look of one’s derriere and the front and back rise, leg shape, as well as fit can either take inches off your leg or put inches on.”

Despite popular belief, you don’t need Solange’s legs to rock short shorts this summer.
They may not leave much to the imagination, but after being donned by Daisy Duke in the early eighties and Miley today, who wasn’t even born back then, the short-on-fabric-long-on-shelf-life style has proven to be timeless. It’s not like you’re gonna wear a dress every day, and with the right cut and cloth, this summer’s take on the staple can offer the optical illusion of a longer-limbed look.
