A pair of runaway teens from Massachusetts was found safe and sound at the Occupy Newark encampment in New Jersey.
Connor Southard, 13, of Manchester and Laura Dixon, 14, of Wenham were located at Military Park after an attorney for the protest group convinced them to turn themselves in to local police.
“I’m forever grateful to whomever convinced them,” Connor’s mother, Annemarie Southard, told FoxNews.com. “I’m still trying to figure out how they got to Newark.”
The teens—described as boyfriend and girlfriend—fled from their homes during the early morning hours of Sunday. Surveillance video shows them getting out of a cab at Boston’s South Station.
They made it as far as Newark, where they spent Sunday night at the Occupy camp. After police were contacted, the teens were taken to a local hospital as a precaution, but they were found to be in good health and expected to return to Massachusetts within a day.
“I think that the only thing that is comforting is that they went on their own and not kidnapped,” Annemarie Southard said.
