Miley Cyrus is not one to stay put and keep her mouth shut. So it’s no surprise she is fighting the Dominican Republic’s ruling banning her from performing as scheduled next week.
The 21-year-old singer was set to perform in the Dominican capital on Sept. 13 – which would have been her first concert in the Caribbean island – but the government deemed her to be morally indefensible.
The commission that oversees public performances cancelled her concert because Cyrus often “undertakes acts that go against morals and customs, which are punishable by Dominican law.”
The ruling did not sit well with Cyrus and a legal challenge has been filed by the tour’s promoter in the Dominican Republic to remove the ban.
According to E! News, the filing argued the decision to ban Cyrus’ artistic expression is in violation of the Dominican constitution.
“Miley wants to defend artistic expression for all artists,” a source told E! News.
Tickets ranging from $27 to $370 for the concert have been on sale since July, about four months after Cyrus kicked off her Bangerz tour.
“The Wrecking Ball” singer, whose tour continues this fall in South America, Australia and New Zealand, will perform in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Sept. 11.
