The woman who Roman Polanski raped back in 1977 is opening up about her experiences with the famed director in a new book, which features a shocking cover image.

“The Girl: A Life in the Shadow of Roman Polanski” by Samantha Geimer features a bold photo on its cover of a then 13-year-old Geimer just days before Polanski drugged and raped her in the home of Jack Nicholson.

The image was taken by Polanski himself in his first photo shoot with Geimer—whose maiden name is Samantha Gailey. It was at his second photo session with the child that Polanski raped her and gave her alcohol and a Quaalude.

The book, out this fall, promises to break Geimer’s nearly 35 year silence and “tell her story for the first time.”

The cover photo for the book was obtained during Geimer’s civil suit against Polanski, her lawyer Lawrence Silver explained in the book, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“What happened was this," Silver writes. "In executing the search warrant, the police didn’t recognize the importance of a receipt/claim check from Sav-On Drugs’ photograph department. Years later, I was told that Polanski gave his lawyer the receipt, and they secured the printed roll of film and negatives from the drug store. During the civil suit, his lawyer had to turn those photos over to me. These photographs, important both legally and historically, would likely have never been discovered if not for the civil suit.”

“The Girl: A Life in the Shadow of Roman Polanski” will be released on Sept. 17.
