The Puerto Rican crooner Marc Anthony will be singing the national anthem during the 2012 National Democratic Convention, taking place in Charlotte, NC., the Democratic National Convention Press Office announced on Friday.
Marc Anthony will be taking center stage on Thursday Sept. 6 at the Bank America Stadium. Other celebrities who will be making an appearance include the Foo Fighters, Mary J. Blige, Earth, Wind and Fire, James Taylor, Delta Rae and Inspire the Fire.
"This roster of performances only adds to the excitement building in Charlotte for the historic week ahead of us," the 2012 Democratic National nvention taking place in Convention Chair Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said in a statement. "The tens of thousands who will attend Convention events in person, and all those tuning in across the country, should be ready for quite a show."
Rapper Pitbull has reportedly also been tapped to be perform at an after party for the DNC and rumors are swirling that actress Jessica Alba will also have a role at the convention along with “Desperate Housewives” actress and Obama supporter Eva Longoria.
This is not the first time Marc Anthony has expressed his support for the Obama campaign.
In June Marc Anthony filmed a 30-second video for the Obama campaign, urging Latinos to back Obama. He also outlined his reasons why Obama deserves the Latinos vote.
“We’ve got jobs, the economy, education, immigration,” Marc Anthony said. “President Obama is on our side on all of it. We just need to make sure he gets four more years to make more progress.”
Later in the month, Marc Anthony performed at a Obama fundraiser in Miami. Tickets ranged from $25 to $40,000.
Like other Latino celebrities such as Eva Longoria, Maná, Wilmer Valderrama and Pitbull, Marc Anthony feels that the Latino vote will have a major impact in the elections.
“Latinos are a force that can and will help decide this election, and it’s a good thing that we’ve got so much to say, right?” Marc Anthony says in the ad.
“The president has our back, so it’s time to let him know that we’ve got his. Go to Latinos.barackobama.com and get involved today. ¡Estamos unidos!” He added in Spanish.
