Sailor rescued after 2 months adrift at sea
Colombian sailor stranded at sea for two months is rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard.
WEST PARK, FLA. (WSVN) - A driver saved a woman and her child by intentionally crashing her car into the mother’s, July 1, when she saw the woman was having a stroke.
Nakia Moore was driving with her daughter on U.S. Route 441 to pick up her husband in West Park when she suffered a stroke and lost control of her car.
“I remember the car rolling,” Moore said. “And after that is just a blank.”
Brigitte Gonzalez was driving by the rolling car, when she noticed something wrong.
“Everybody was honking, honking, honking,” Gonzalez said. “I looked to my left and I saw the lady and she was having a stroke, a seizure, she was foaming out of the mouth, she was just shaking. Then I saw her daughter, and that’s when I guess it hit me in my heart that I was like, have to stop her.”
She said she decided to slowly drive her car into Moore’s, cutting it off and stopping it.
“I just decided to slow down and kind of slightly hit her,” Gonzalez said. “It wasn’t like a hard impact. I slightly hit the tip of the front of her car.”
That was enough to stop Moore’s Nissan Altima. Meanwhile, a bystander fagged down Broward Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Kypps Pollard.
“She just positioned her car, you know with the speeds that the car was going, to minimize that amount of damage and the impact,” Pollard said.
Police arrived and helped ward traffic away from the cars.
“The next thing I remember is coming to and seeing the police officers and everybody around the car,” Moore said.
Moore is convinced Gonzalez saved her and her daughter’s lives, putting herself at risk in the process.
“I’m just grateful for her, I thank God for her,” Moore said.
“Thank God that there are good people out there that do things just for the right reason,” Pollard said.
Moore and Gonzalez had never met before, but they have spoken on the phone since the incident. They said they’ll be lifelong friends. “I’m just happy that she’s ok,” Gonzalez said. “Honestly I don’t care so much about the car. I just want her and her daughter to be ok.”
