Reporter Fired After Dropping “F” Bomb
A young reporter will have to learn the hard way from his mistakes after being fired for cursing in his debut as T.V. anchor.
“We all make mistakes,” A.J. Clemente tweeted.
Unfortunately, the young reporter will have to learn the hard way from his mistakes after he was fired for cursing in his debut as a TV news anchor.
It all began when A.J. Clemente was heard whispering "F---ing sh-t," into his mic as an announcer introduced KFYR’s evening report.
As his co-anchor tried to recover for Clemente following the mishap, the reporter continued to struggle through his awkward first moments.
While it took place on a small NBC affiliate, the incident quickly spread across the country on social media.
On Monday morning, a day after making his debut, Clemente was fired.
“Unfortunately KFYRTV has decided to let me go,” Clemente tweeted from his personal account. “Thank you to them and everyone in ND (North Dakota) for the opportunity and everyone for the support.”
Just a day prior, it seemed as though Clemente would just get a slap on the wrist.
Station director Monia Hannan apologized to viewers on the KFYR Facebook page, saying Clemente would be suspended "until we resolve this situation."
"All we can do is ask for your forgiveness, and I can offer my personal assurance that I will do my best to ensure nothing like this ever happens again under my watch," she added.
On the 10 p.m. news hour, his co-anchor, Van Tieu, also issued an apology.
"We were caught off guard and [Clemente] didn't realize his microphone was on. And while that was no excuse - we do train our reporters to always assume that any microphone is live at any time - unfortunately we cannot take back what was said.”
While Clemente acknowledged his “rookie mistake” on Twitter, he said he couldn’t help but laugh at himself.
“I'm a free agent,” Clemente proclaimed on the micro blogging site. “ Wish I didn’t trip over my ‘Freaking Shoes’ out of the gate.”
