MALMO, Sweden – A Swedish man charged with possessing several sticks of dynamite had the wurst explanation: he thought they were sausages.
The Local Sweden reported Friday that the 50-year-old man claimed the nine pounds of dynamite hidden in a plastic bag in his apartment had been left there by a friend.
What's more, he said he thought the long, cylindrical items in the bag were simply sausages.
However, The Local said, he later admitted he recognized the bag contained explosives because he previously had used dynamite to "blow holes in the ice" while winter fishing.
Police bomb experts said the dynamite posed a serious threat to the man and his neighbors.
The Malmo district court ruled he was guilty of illegal possession of explosives and fined him the equivalent of 60 days' pay.
