JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (AP) — South African police say they have found nearly 3 tons (2.49 metric tons) of commercial explosives in a Johannesburg house.

Authorities say an 18-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man were arrested during Friday's raid. Police also were hunting for a third suspect.

Police believe the explosives hidden in a bathroom in a suburban home had been stolen from a shipping container depot and would be used by a criminal syndicate to blow up ATMs.

The find raises fears over the availability of commercial explosives ahead of the World Cup that starts in June. Hundreds of thousands of foreign visitors are expected.

South Africa imports large quantities of explosives for its mining industry.
