Residents comb hospitals for dead and missing from Ghana explosion as toll rises to 200
ACCRA, Ghana – Ghana's emergency services have raised the toll of those killed in last week's gas station explosion and flooding to 200 as distraught residents search for their loved ones.
Torrential rains caused the fuel depot at a gas station to catch fire, killing those who had taken shelter there on Wednesday as well as many in the surrounding neighborhood.
On Monday, many expressed frustration that they had still not found their loved ones in the various hospitals and morgues around the city.
"I am only hoping that my brother is in one of the hospitals I have yet to visit," said Richard Allotey.
Schools are reopening meanwhile, after being closed by the flooding and next Wednesday there will be a memorial service for the dead.
