Mexican authorities say two burned bodies have been discovered inside a vehicle in which a congressman and his driver were kidnapped a day earlier.

Zacatecas state prosecutor Arturo Nahle says that although the vehicle was completely burned, the license plates confirm it was the congressman's car.

He said Tuesday that DNA testing was being done on the bodies to determine whether they belonged to Gabriel Gomez Michel, a member of the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party, and his driver.

The two were nabbed at gunpoint the previous day on a highway near Guadalajara, the capital of the western state of Jalisco.

The vehicle and the bodies were found in Zacatecas state, which neighbors Jalisco.
