Authorities in Namibia are searching for a Mozambique Airlines plane carrying 34 people that was reported missing.

The Namibia Press Agency reported Saturday that a police helicopter was dispatched to assist officers on the ground in searching a vast, sparsely populated area near the border with Angola.

Flight TM470 did not land as scheduled in Luanda, the Angolan capital, on Friday afternoon. Mozambique Airlines initially said it was trying to confirm a report that the plane landed in Rundu, in northern Namibia.

The airline says the plane was carrying 28 passengers and six crew members.
