2 nurses charged with beating children at Russian orphanage to stop them from crying

Russia's state investigative agency has filed charges against two nurses accused of severely beating three small children at an orphanage, one of them into a coma.

The Investigative Committee said Thursday that the two nurses went on a drinking binge and beat a three-year old boy and a ten-month girl to stop them from crying. They also wrapped a seven-month boy in a blanket and put him in a plastic container to silence him.

The committee says the children were hospitalized with injuries. It said the incident happened on April 1, but the orphanage only reported it a week later.

Russia's Channel 1 state television says that the youngest victim has been taken out of coma and is recovering. The nurses have been on the run.
