MOSCOW – Russia's state investigative agency has filed charges against two nurses accused of severely beating three small children at an orphanage, one of them into a coma.
The Investigative Committee said Thursday that the two nurses went on a drinking binge and beat a three-year old boy and a ten-month girl to stop them from crying. They also wrapped a seven-month boy in a blanket and put him in a plastic container to silence him.
The committee says the children were hospitalized with injuries. It said the incident happened on April 1, but the orphanage only reported it a week later.
Russia's Channel 1 state television says that the youngest victim has been taken out of coma and is recovering. The nurses have been on the run.
