STUTTGART, Germany – Fifth-seeded Sam Stosur of Australia defeated Peng Shuai of China 6-2, 6-2 on Tuesday to reach the second round of the Porsche Grand Prix.
Seventh-seeded Marion Bartoli of France also cruised into the second round of the indoor clay tournament, beating qualifier Iveta Benesova of Czech Republic 6-3, 6-2.
The eight top-ranked women in the world are also the top seeds at the event.
Alize Cornet of France, Angelique Kerber of Germany and Greta Arn of Hungary also advanced.
