METAIRIE, La. (AP) The New Orleans Saints have placed running back Mark Ingram on injured reserve, ending his season after 12 games.

Ingram, who scored a go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter of New Orleans' 41-38 loss to unbeaten Carolina on Sunday, is the team's leader in yards from scrimmage with 1,174 yards from scrimmage this season, including 769 yards rushing. He also scored six touchdowns rushing.

The Saints have not disclosed Ingram's specific injury. He'd been listed with shoulder soreness on the Saints' injury report last week before playing the entire game Sunday.

With Ingram out, New Orleans activated fullback Austin Johnson from the practice squad. The Saints still have three other running backs on the active roster: C.J. Spiller, Tim Hightower and rookie Marcus Murphy.
