Penguins re-sign Adams to 2-year deal

The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed forward Craig Adams to a two-year, $1.35 million contract, the team announced Thursday. He could have become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

Adams, 34, led the team's forwards in shorthanded ice time this past season at 3:05 per game, helping Pittsburgh finish with the League's No. 1-ranked penalty-killing unit in the regular season at 86.1 percent. It was the first time in franchise history the Penguins led the League in penalty killing.

Claimed on waivers from the Chicago Blackhawks on March 4, 2009, Adams has 4 goals and 22 assists in 171 games. He was a key contributor to Pittsburgh's Stanley Cup run that season. Adams also won a Cup with Carolina in 2006.

In 10 NHL seasons, the 6-foot, 197-pound forward has 41 goals and 74 assists in 669 games. In 73 postseason games, he has 6 goals and 3 assists.
