The San Diego Padres have selected the contract of pitcher Brad Boxberger from Triple-A Tucson.

Boxberger made 22 relief appearances for Tucson this year, going 1-2 with five saves and a 4.70 ERA. He was acquired by San Diego as part of the five-player trade with the Reds that also sent Edinson Volquez, Yonder Alonso and Yasmani Grandal to the Padres in exchange for Mat Latos.

In addition, the Padres optioned pitcher Andrew Cashner to Double-A San Antonio and transferred pitcher Tim Stauffer to the 60-day disabled list.

Cashner, who made a spot start on Saturday against Milwaukee, went 3-3 with a 3.81 ERA in 28 appearances for the Padres this year.
