PINE BLUFF, Ark. – D'Angelo Jackson scored 22 points as Mississippi Valley State beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 83-69 in a Southwestern Athletic Conference opener Tuesday night.
Terrence Joyner and Orlando Smith added 12 points apiece for the Delta Devils (2-12), who snapped a seven-game losing streak. Paul Crosby had 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds, and Kevin Burwell scored 10 for Mississippi Valley State, which outshot Arkansas-Pine Bluff 49.1 percent (26 of 53) to 39.7 percent (23 of 58).
Allen Smith paced the Golden Lions (0-13) with 14 points. Ricky Parks and Savalace Townsend scored 11 apiece, and Gavin Montgomery added 10.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff led 19-13. But the Delta Devils ran off the next 14 points, and when Jackson's layup with 7:33 to go put the Delta Devils ahead 20-19, they never gave up the lead.
Mississippi Valley State led 42-36 at halftime, and the advantage reached 27 points in the second half.
