Lyon jumped out to an early lead in the Ligue 1 table on Saturday as the club ran out to a convincing 4-0 victory over Nice at the Stade de Gerland.

Alexandre Lacazette produced the lone goal of the first half, but the second period saw the home side cruise to all three points.

Clement Grenier doubled Lyon's advantage with a goal in the 55th minute while Lacazette completed his brace 13 minutes later.

With the victory all but secured, Yoann Gourcuff tacked on a late goal to add insult injury to for visiting Nice.

Valenciennes also opened its Ligue 1 season with a win, claiming a 3-0 defeat of 10-man Toulouse at the Stade du Hainaut on Saturday to stay within touching distance of Lyon.

After Uros Spajic was sent off for Toulouse in the 34th minute, Maor Melikson netted a penalty kick to give Valenciennes the edge. The home side never looked back as Jose Saez and Gregory Pujol scored second-goals to put the result beyond any doubt.

Free-spending Monaco, widely viewed as PSG's main threat to the Ligue 1 title, escaped the Stade Chaban-Delmas with all three points as a pair of late goals helped the club get a 2-0 win over Bordeaux.

The two sides looked likely to split the points with a scoreless match until Emmanuel Riviere and Radamel Falcao scored a goal apiece inside the final eight minutes to put the finishing touches on the smash-and-grab job.

Elsewhere in Ligue 1 action on Saturday, Evian was held to a 1-1 home draw by Sochaux, Rennes picked up a 2-1 defeat of Reims, Nantes claimed a 2-0 victory over Bastia and Lille edged Lorient in a 1-0 victory.
