Irving, Thomas once again named NBA's top rookies

For the second straight month, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving and Sacramento Kings guard Isaiah Thomas were named the top rookies in the Eastern and Western Conference, respectively.

Irving once again led all rookies in scoring and assists for March, posting 19.9 points and 6.7 helpers per contest. He also finished second in free-throw percentage (.881). The Duke product scored at least 20 points in eight games during the month, connecting on better than 50 percent from the floor on six occasions.

His best performance came in a 103-102 overtime loss to Atlanta on March 21, striking for 29 points, nine assists and career highs of nine rebounds and three steals.

Thomas placed second in the West in rookie scoring (13.6 points per game) and was tops in assists per contest (4.9). He also ranked third in total points (245), second in assists (89) and tops in total free throws made (54).

The Washington product turned in a career best 28 points, 10 assists and four boards in a 117-112 loss to San Antonio on March 28.

Other nominees for the rookie award were Kemba Walker of Charlotte, Houston's Chandler Parsons, MarShon Brooks from the Nets, Brandon Knight from the Pistons and San Antonio's Kawhi Leonard.
