Former head coach Will Muschamp left behind an embarrassment of riches on the defensive side of the ball. Both deep and talented, the unit is living up to the billing.
Offensively is where there were legitimate question marks. With an inexperienced quarterbacking duo in Will Grier and Treon Harris, conventional wisdom suggested that turnovers could prevent Florida from reaching its potential.
Seven games into this current year, and the Gators have done exceptionally well in this category.
Florida ranks No. 6 overall in turnover margin, sitting with a +9 standing. The Gators have done a great job of creating turnovers on the defensive side of the ball, largely due to the considerable talent at all levels of the defense.
McElwain's defense has created 14 turnovers on the year. The offense has capitalized on these gifts, converting eight of the 14 takeaways into touchdowns. Grier and Harris have also only combined for three interceptions through the first seven games.
It's no surprise No. 13 Florida sits at 6-1 heading into its rivalry game against Georgia on Oct. 31.
