Atlanta, GA – The Atlanta Braves activated pitcher Tommy Hanson from the 15-day disabled list on Friday.
Hanson, who landed on the DL July 31 with a lower back strain, is expected to start Friday's series-opener against the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers.
The righty is 12-5 with a 4.29 ERA and 114 strikeouts against 54 walks in 22 games -- all starts -- with the Braves this season. He has struggled since the All-Star break, however, posting a 7.45 earned run average with 16 walks in 19 1/3 innings over four starts.
To make room on the active roster, the Braves optioned pitcher Cory Gearrin to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Gearrin has made 12 relief appearances for the parent club this season, going 0-0 with a 0.79 ERA in 11 1/3 innings.
