Sporting Lisbon announced the signing of defender Khalid Boulahrouz on a free transfer on Wednesday.

Boulahrouz makes the move to Portugal on a two-year contract with the option of a further season after his deal with German side Stuttgart expired this summer.

"I am very ambitious, just like Sporting are, and I felt I could fit in very well here," he told the club's official website.

"I have come to help the team win titles. I will give my all to be successful with this team and I hope that I will give the fans many good moments.

"I like the aggressive style of play in Portugal, and the atmosphere in the country also seems to be very good."

The 30-year-old has earned 35 caps for the Netherlands and he becomes the fifth signing of the summer for Sporting, joining Gelson Fernandes, Sunil Chhetri, Zakaria Labyad and Danijel Pranjic.
