The Blues signed defenseman Nikita Nikitin to a one-year extension, the team announced Thursday afternoon.

Terms of the contract were not immediately available.

The 6-foot-3, 217-pound defenseman made his NHL debut on Nov. 6, 2010 and appeared in 41 games last season for the Blues. The 24-year-old recorded an assist on Feb. 4 against Edmonton for his first NHL point and finished the season with 1 goal and 8 assists.

The Omsk, Russia native was originally drafted by the Blues in the fifth round of the 2004 Entry Draft. Nikitin also dressed in 22 games for the Blues' AHL affiliate, Peoria, last season, tallying 3 goals and 11 assists.
