White House Denies Report That It Supports U.N. Probe of Israeli Raid on Flotilla

The White House on Friday denied a report that said it is set to support a United Nations investigation into Israel's deadly raid last week on a blockade-busting flotilla filled with Palestinian protesters headed for Gaza.

The conservative Weekly Standard reported that the White House is prepared to back the push for an independent commission to determine Israel's role in the raid violence, in which nine men in the flotilla were killed, including eight Turks and a Turkish-American.

But White House spokesman Tommy Vietor issued a statement to the Israeli press saying the White House supports the swift, credible, independent and transparent probe that Israel plans to launch.

President Obama said this week that Gaza's situation is unsustainable and suggested that everything except weapons should be let in.
