The Secret Service is continuing to investigate the hacking of a FoxNews.com Twitter feed for political news following unauthorized updates falsely claiming that President Obama had been assassinated, officials with the agency said Tuesday.

"It's an ongoing investigation," a Secret Service spokesman told FoxNews.com. "Per policy, we don't comment on ongoing investigations."

A series of six tweets posted on the FoxNews Politics account early Monday morning reported that President Obama had been shot to death during a trip to Iowa. The reports were incorrect, of course. The president spent his July 4 holiday at a White House barbecue.

Fox News alerted the Secret Service to the tweets, and will actively work with the ongoing investigation. Fox News is also working closely with Twitter to appropriately investigate the incident.

"We will be requesting a detailed investigation from Twitter about how this occurred, and measures to prevent future unauthorized access into FoxNews.com accounts," said Jeff Misenti, VP and General Manager of FoxNews.com.

A group known as the “Script Kiddies” reportedly took credit for the hacking, but Fox News does not have independent verification of that claim. The group is involved in the so-called “anti-sec” movement, which aims to disrupt the computer security industry.
