The First Family spent the morning at Ft. McNair participating in a service event for military kids. During her remarks, Mrs. Obama thanked volunteers (made up of Congressional members and family members) and gave a preview of what to expect at Thursday evening's Congressional Luau on the South Lawn.
And we've gleaned some tidbits from the First Lady's office about what to expect at the luau:
- 2000 guests (Members of Congress and their families) will attend. They will each receive a plastic lei.
- There will be a dunk tank where guests can take shots at White House staff (including Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and Press Secretary Robert Gibbs).
- Kids at the event will get hula lessons
- The entertainment includes Polynesian dancers and fire blowers
- A disc jockey will play Hawaiian music and classics from the Beach Boys and Elvis
- Renowned Hawaiian Chef Alan Wong and his team will be stationed under tiki huts where they will prepare some of the food and serve it.
