Regardless of what President Obama said Sunday night, Americans overwhelming want the nation to send ground troops to fight the Islamic State.
According to a new CNN/ORC poll, a majority of Americans (53 percent) called for combat troop deployments, for the first time in the history of the poll.
Americans are also increasingly displeased in how the president is handling the threat of terrorism. Six in 10 disapprove of his handling, while 68 percent say America's military response to the Islamic State has not been aggressive enough.
Obama spoke from the Oval Office Sunday night, telling Americans that the Islamic State and the threat of terrorism is being handled by his administration, and that increased deployments of ground troops are still not an option.
