Active shooter forces FAA to divert San Diego air traffic

The Federal Aviation Administration redirected air traffic from a San Diego airport Wednesday after an active shooter was reported in the area.

Planes are being directed away from landing at Lindbergh Field in order to avoid flying over an active shooting scene, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Planes departing the airport were unaffected since they take off in a different direction.

Law enforcement said the incident started after the suspect fired shots at them when they responded to a domestic violence complaint.

SWAT teams descended on the scene after police confirmed the suspect had a high-powered rifle in his possession.

Police released gas into the apartment, but have not been able to remove the suspect.
