A New York City councilman is proposing a bill that would make it illegal to distribute toys with kids meals unless the meal meets certain nutritional requirements, MyFoxNY.com reports.
The legislation, which Leroy Comrie plans to introduce Wednesday, would only allow meals to include a toy if they have fewer than 500 calories, fewer than 600 milligrams of sodium and fewer than 35 percent of calories from fat, excluding nuts and seeds.
"By ensuring that the toys are put in with nutritional meals, the parents will be able to have healthier options for their children," Comrie told MyFoxNY.com.
This is not the first time a city has attacked the fast food industry for including toys in unhealthy kids meals.
Last year, San Francisco lawmakers passed a similar law that prohibits giving away toys in fast food kids meals that have more than 600 calories, 640 milligrams of sodium or 35 percent of calories from fat.
The ordinance also restricted saturated fats and trans fats and required the meals to include fruits or vegetables.
