A baby conceived through in vitro fertilization in Singapore does not have the same DNA as the supposed father, a family lawyer says, Agence France-Presse reported.
The baby’s blood type is B and the mother has type O, while her husband has type A blood – so it’s scientifically impossible for the father to be biologically related to the child, said the lawyer, S. Palaniappan.
“They discovered it a few days after the birth of the baby,” he said. “They were informed by the pediatrician that the baby’s blood (type) is B.”
Palaniappan is keeping the couple’s identity a secret, and he has not said if the baby is a boy or a girl. The couple is awaiting results of an official DNA test carried out by the Health Sciences Authority under Singapore’s Ministry of Health, but a preliminary test has showed the father is not related to the baby.
The couple underwent fertility treatment at the Thomson Fertility Center. Staff at the center was not available for comment when contacted by AFP.
