Kelsey Grammer may be on the brink of joining the cast on the third installment in Sylvester Stallone's star-studded action film franchise.

According to Deadline.com, Grammer is in the running for a role initially offered to Nicolas Cage. Best known for his roles on the TV sitcoms "Cheers" and "Frasier," the actor is in talks to play Bonaparte, a former mercenary who lends a hand to the Expendables in their third on-screen mission.

The 58-year-old actor will be just one more prestigious name in a cast that is already brimming with celebrities. Alongside Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Antonio Banderas and Wesley Snipes, however, Grammer will stand out somewhat, as he is generally less associated with action films than the other headliners.

Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lungren and Arnold Schwarzenegger will return in the roles of the original Expendables team members.

Directed by Patrick Hughes, "The Expendables 3" is slated for release in North American theaters on August 15.
