For Saturday night’s 2014 Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles, the stars decided to go big and bold with plenty of bling.

From Sofia Vergara channeling her inner old Hollywood glamour girl to Jennifer Lawrence doing her best impression of a chic disco ball, a slew of celebs opted for loads of sparkle for their coveted couture. And while they could have easily jazzed up their looks with accessories alone, these leading ladies made grand entrances in glitzy, jewel-encrusted ensembles that flaunted curves, and in one case, a baby bump.

While it may be expected for Hollywood actresses to wear their best glittering gowns for a major awards ceremony, several stylists insist that sequins and all things sparkly are a major do for fashion, regardless of age.

“My favorite fashion myth is that studs, sequins, and sparkles are only intended for eveningwear,” explains model and fashion expert Jaimie Hilfiger. “Of course, wearing a sequined mini dress is inappropriate for a daytime meeting, but there are ways for incorporating a bit of bling into your everyday look.”
“Next time, when you want to add a little sparkle to your work ensemble, try wearing a top with demure beading or just a bit around the neckline,” she says. “Another way of toning down a sparkly top is to wear a jacket or blazer over a shirt. When wearing a sequined skirt, try pairing it with a structured shirt that is a solid color.”

For some inspiration, check out how the stars shined on the red carpet at the SAG Awards:
Standing just a little over five feet tall, actress Rita Moreno’s youthful glow and megawatt smile instantly light up the room.

“I’m probably the happiest person I know,” says the 82-year-old Moreno, the only Latina actress ever to win an Emmy, a Tony, a Grammy and an Oscar. Now, she's poised to accept another honor: the Life Achievement Award at the 20th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on Jan. 18 in New York City.
But happiness isn't the only thing that keeps Moreno looking so ageless: According to the actress, it’s all about skincare.
“I guess it must be the Caribbean genes,” says Moreno, who was born in Puerto Rico. “I used to have very oily skin and acne when I was 18 years old. I also used to stay out in the sun for hours. I’m surprised I didn’t get baked like (Julio Iglesias).”

“Back then, (doctors) used to apply an ultraviolet light for acne and this acetone alcohol rub,” she recalls of the less-than-glamorous ways once used to combat blemishes, so Moreno chose to take matters in her own hands.
“I used to use one of those rough, nasty brushes to scrub my face every day,” she explains. “It was very harsh, but exfoliating every day helped a lot. I would definitely say that exfoliating was really my main beauty trick.”
These days, Moreno prefers to go bare-faced. When she needs to wear makeup, she's all about keeping it minimal.
“I like to keep it natural,” she explains. “I add a little water to my foundation to make it really light. But that’s really it.”

When you do wear foundation, use a brush, she advises. Finish with a sponge if needed. One of the most common mistakes Moreno still sees, especially in television, is forgetting one crucial step in creating a flawless canvas.
“You have to blend a lot. You always see the foundation end at the chin. It has to go further down,” says Moreno, pointing at her smooth V-neck line. “The décolleté area.”
And like any trained performer knows, daily exercise is crucial for keeping a trim figure camera-ready. Moreno, who “started dancing almost before I could walk,” no longer dances after knee replacement surgery. (The other knee's not in great shape either, she says.) But she still exercises every day — and she keeps it simple.
“I do a lot of walking, every day,” says Moreno of her current workout routine.

She continues to act and has no plans to slow down. In her recently published memoir, she recalls her high-profile romances, including a messy affair with Marlon Brando (she later settled down with cardiologist Leonard Gordon to whom she was married for 45 years until his death in 2010).
Her simple advice for lasting love? “Be very careful when you’re hopelessly, obsessively, head-over-heels in love,” she says. “That’s when you have to look out. Love and those romantic feelings you tend to feel? Completely different — but easy to get them confused. That’s what happened to me with Marlon.”
“Don’t let your romantic self take over and consume you. Don’t seek out love and ignore everything else in your life. Focus on your goals and be true to who you are instead.”

Here's a look back at Rita Moreno over the years:
Ireland Baldwin isn't particularly famous for anything of note, except perhaps her Instagram account, or the fact that she's Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger's daughter. But the 18-year-old model didn't let that stop her from strutting her stuff like a true A-lister at Tuesday night's Sports Illustrated party.

Baldwin arrived at a celebration for the 50th anniversary of the Swimsuit Issue wearing a black and white dress featuring a neckline that plunged nearly to her navel. She accessorized with a black clutch, strappy black heels, and professional paddleboarder Slater Trout (also known as her boyfriend). Plus, with her swept back hair and slightly smirking smile, she was virtually the spitting image of her mom.

And once inside, Baldwin evidently had a ball. During the festivities, she shared photos on Instagram of herself partying with Sports Illustrated swimsuit models Chrissy Teigen and Christie Brinkley.

If you happen to find a hairbrush anywhere near Gisele Bündchen's home, chances are it belongs to Tom Brady.

In an interview with The Associated Press, the 33-year-old supermodel revealed that, unlikely as it seems, she doesn't even own a hairbrush. But before we get outraged over this seemingly impossible claim, it's not like Bündchen expects us to believe she wakes up with those perfect beachy waves.
"In my job, you have to remember people are brushing my hair every day," she explained. "You have to remember the last thing I want [on a day off] is a brush in my hair!"

We can understand that much, but a hairbrush still seems like an awfully common item to stock in your vanity, especially when you're the world's highest paid supermodel.
Bündchen went on to say that her hectic lifestyle and her duties as a mom keep her from styling her own hair on a day-to-day basis, so instead, she relies on a "sleek bun" around the house.
Oh, and by the way, she looks pretty good in a bun, too (be it messy or sleek):

Over the past couple of decades, the media has warped women’s perception of their own bodies, vehemently convincing them that a slender physique is the ideal. What some might not realize is that it wasn’t always this way. In fact, there have been eras in history, namely the 1930′s and 1950′s, where skinny was considered unattractive.

Some women’s ears might perk up at this notion of curves being en vogue, and we can’t say we totally blame them for it, as staring at images of waif-thin models and actresses can be damaging. But the idea that what a women’s body should look like goes in and out of trend as easily as kitten heels is deeply disconcerting.

Popular culture is slowly inching towards more body diversity, but at the end of the day, harmful fads such as ‘thigh gap‘ still exist, which makes the premise of women intentionally trying to gain weight seem ludicrous. However, as you’ll see in the vintage advertisements below, there once was that appeal. In fact, one could argue that media was even more cruel to women that don’t fit their quota for “sex-appealing curves."

'The Wolf of Wall Street' is aggressive in plot, length, and decibels. It is exactly the kind of movie you might feel like seeing after two days of polite conversation and delayed hangovers brought on by mindless consumption of average quality merlot, which might explain why the screening I attended was completely packed out. Another contributing factor is that it’s one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2013, naturally: It’s directed by Martin Scorsese, it stars Leonardo DiCaprio, and it delivers on the wicked mix of humor and spectacle it promises.

It also delivers on unabashed misogyny, which is something I could take or leave. I walked out feeling both very impressed, mildly ashamed at the ease with which I managed to shut myself off, and enjoy the film for what it was: A party that dragged on just a little too long.
However, I did crave something else essential to what there was of a plot: A real grown-up person suit.

Vital to 'The Wolf of Wall Street’s' drug-fuelled debauchery and high-finance hustling are the suits. At the start of the film DiCaprio’s character Jourdan Belfort, “the wolf,” is dressed in endearingly tragic double-breasted jackets, which are soon swapped for shiny silk Giorgio Armani pinstripes and royal blue power ties. In real life his fancier suits were made by Manhattan tailor Anthony Giliberto, whose life became so inextricably interwoven with Belfort’s Stratton Oakmont that he was even recruited to be a broker with the company (he turned it down).
