Police have detained a suspect after a stabbing attack at an East Texas hospital left one nurse dead, another hurt and three visitors wounded.

The stabbings happened Tuesday morning at a surgical unit of Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. CEO Steve Altmiller calls the attack an isolated incident and the hospital was reportedly placed on lockdown after the incident.

Police Officer Kristie Brian says a suspect has been taken into custody. Details about him and a possible motive for the stabbings at the Ambulatory Surgical Center, across the street from the main hospital, weren't immediately released.

Hospital spokeswoman Victoria Ashworth says a female worker died, one of the visitors is in critical condition, while the other worker and two additional visitors are in good condition. Names of the victims weren't immediately released.

Longview is 120 miles southeast of Dallas.
