Toyota’s chief test driver died in a highway crash Wednesday in Germany, autoblog.com reported.

Hiromu Naruse, 67, was driving a Lexus LFA supercar near the Nurburgring race track in western Germany when he reportedly veered into oncoming traffic and collided with two other test drivers in a BMW.

The two other drivers survived the crash, but one is in critical condition, according to autoblog.com.

Police have yet to determine the cause of the accident.

Naruse joined Toyota in 1963 and was involved in the development of sports cars for the company from the late 1960s.
