Passenger train hits minibus at crossing in Indonesia, killing 13 and seriously injuring 6

Police say a passenger train slammed into a minibus that was carrying families of hajj pilgrims on Indonesia's Java island, killing 13 people and severely injuring six others.

West Java police spokesman Col. Martinus Sitompul says the minibus was crossing the tracks at an unguarded crossing Tuesday when it was hit by the train in Indramayu district.

He said the driver of the minibus was among the fatalities. The train was travelling from Jakarta to the Central Java town of Solo.

Train accidents are common on Indonesia's aging railroad network, especially at crossings.
