Hatfield, Pennsylvania – Authorities in a Philadelphia suburb have arrested a man who allegedly broke into an apartment and raped a 6-year-old girl.
Early on the morning of Nov. 9, the Hatfield Township Police Department responded to a 911 call from an 11-year-old boy saying a man broke into his family’s apartment and may have done “something” to his sister.
When police arrived, the suspect, Oscar Rivera Herrera, was being held at the scene by the child's stepfather. The man is accused of breaking into the apartment and sexually assaulting the girl, who was sleeping on the top bunk of a bunk bed she shared with her brother.
According to an affidavit cited by the Philadelphia News, the brother woke up once in the bottom bunk and heard his sister, who was crying, ask, "Why are you doing this?"
He told told police that he assumed his sister was having a nightmare. He awoke a second time at around 4 a.m. to find the bed shaking and heard a man's voice.That's when he went to his parents' bedroom and dialed 911.

Authorities say Rivera Herrera admitted to entering the apartment through a living room window and admitted to getting into the same bed as the 6-year-old girl. Rivera Herrera also admitted he had broken into this same apartment approximately two or three months ago, though no one was present at the time, according to investigators.
The girl received a medical assessment at a nearby hospital and forensic evidence was collected, the News reported. She told police that her attacker removed her pajamas and hit her in the face and head during the attack.
Rivera Herrera has been charged with rape, statutory sexual assault, burglary and assorted other charges stemming from the event. He is being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear at a court hearing on Nov. 19.
