Canada's prime minister says he's "very concerned" about allegations that his country's spies targeted Brazilian officials.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Tuesday officials are "reaching out very proactively" to Brazilian counterparts.

Brazil Foreign Minister Luiz Alberto Figueiredo summoned the Canadian ambassador following the revelations that aired Sunday night on Brazil's Globo network. Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff says it appears to be an act of industrial espionage.

The report said phone calls and emails from and to the Mines and Energy Ministry were targeted by Canada's Communications Security Establishment.

The report was based on documents leaked by former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden. It was the latest showing that Brazil has been a target for U.S., British and now Canadian spy agencies.
