LONDON, England (AFP) – Bolton came from behind to rescue a 1-1 draw at local rivals Burnley in the opening game of the 2013-14 Championship season on Saturday.
Dougie Freedman's side trailed to an own goal from defender David Wheater, but the visitors drew level thanks to a fine strike from Darren Pratley before half-time at Turf Moor.
Burnley had sold last season's leading scorer Charlie Austin to QPR earlier in the week, but Sean Dyche's men made a bright start to the Football League's 125th season.
They took the lead in the 26th minute when Danny Ings, back from two years of injury problems, latched onto a Sam Vokes' flick and raced past Wheater before flicking a shot that trickled into the far corner via a deflection off the Wanderers' centre-back.
But Bolton responded well and former Swansea midfielder Pratley drilled home the equaliser from 12 yards in the 37th minute after a neat cut-back from former Burnley star Chris Eagles.
Bolton nearly took all three points from the Lancashire derby when South Korea midfielder Lee Chung-yong whipped a corner towards David Ngog, but the former Liverpool striker failed to turn in a shot from close-range.
Later on Saturday, promotion favourites QPR host Sheffield Wednesday in the highlight of a full programme of second tier fixtures.
