Police have made additional arrests in the slaying of a young Oakland mother who was fatally shot after yelling to her children to take cover.

An Oakland police spokeswoman says officers arrested three 29-year-olds over the weekend.

Police last week arrested 19-year-old Anthony Sims in his hospital bed where he was recovering from a gunshot wound sustained in a shootout in a gritty neighborhood where 30-year-old Chyemil Pierce was slain.

Pierce screamed for her son and daughter to take cover after they got caught in crossfire while returning home from work and school on March 9. A stray bullet killed Pierce. The children were not physically injured.

Police arrested Shelton McDaniels and Jerry Harbin on suspicion of murder. Kiechelle Wilright was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to murder.
