Christian Convert Rifqa Bary Turns 18, Released From State Custody

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A runaway Christian teenager estranged from her Muslim parents has been released from state custody by an Ohio judge on the girl's 18th birthday.

Attorneys for Rifqa Bary said Tuesday their client is relieved but won't discuss her immediate future or the status of her attempt to stay in the U.S.

Bary, an illegal immigrant from Sri Lanka, came to the U.S. when she was 5 with her parents, who are seeking legal status for themselves.

Bary ran away to Orlando, Fla., last year with the help of a Christian pastor she met on Facebook, saying she feared she'd be harmed for her conversion to Christianity.

Her parents have denied the allegation, and police in Florida and Columbus found no evidence she was in danger.
