A Florida man who has been convicted of raping his neighbor at knifepoint then offering to do work around her house to make up for it was sentenced on Monday to 50 years in prison, according to reports.

Jurors in West Palm Beach found 20-year-old Timothy Walding guilty of sexual battery, false imprisonment and armed burglary in October. Circuit Judge Daliah Weiss sentenced him to a mandatory minimum sentence of 50 years.

In Oct. 2017, Walding broke into his 35-year-old neighbor’s house wearing a mask, and sexually assaulted her for 90 minutes, the Sun-Sentinel reported. The victim, who is a mother of two, said Walding tied her up and threatened her with a knife.

The woman, whose identity has not been released, said Walding told her after the assault that he had picked the lock of her front door and said, “You really should deadbolt your door because I didn’t really want to do this but I had to do it.”

When she asked him why, he said, “Obviously it wasn’t a spontaneous thing and I had this plan,” according to court records.

She said Walding later offered to make up for the rape by offering to do yard work or fix something around her house. She declined.

Walding asked her not tell anyone what had happened and they shook hands, prosecutors said. When Walding left, the woman called 911 and he was arrested.
