Yankees activate Garcia to start series finale

The New York Yankees activated pitcher Freddy day disabled list to start Monday's series finale against the Baltimore Orioles.

Garcia landed on the DL August 19 after cutting his right index finger in a kitchen-related mishap. He last pitched on August 7, allowing one run over five frames in the Yankees' 3-2, 10th-inning loss to the Red Sox..

In 21 games -- 20 starts -- this season, Garcia is 10-7 with a 3.16 ERA.

To clear room on the roster, the Yankees optioned reliever Hector Noesi to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre.

Noesi is 2-0 with a 3.42 ERA in 24 appearances with the Yankees this season.

New York is currently two games behind Boston for first place in the AL East. The teams open a three-game series on Tuesday at Fenway Park.

The Yankees lead the Rays in the AL wild card race by 6 1/2 games.
